Holter Monitoring and Cardiac Event Detections

Holter monitoring is performed for the detection of arrhythmias over a 24 hour period.

The test is done to evaluate symptoms like palpitations, fainting spells, and skipped beats. It is performed by putting some electrodes on the chest wall attached to a small pocket monitor
which records the electrical activity of the heart on tape. The tape is subsequently sent for evaluation and a printed report is available within a few days.

The test is completely safe and no preparation is required. The monitoring period is for 24 hours and involves office personnel applying electrodes and the monitor on one day and removing it on the following day.

For symptoms of palpitations and fainting spells that appear infrequent, cardiac event detection recordings are utilized. This is either for a period of one week or 30 days as your physician
might deem necessary. It involves triggering the recording activity usually when symptoms are experienced and transmission of such events through a telephone system that produces a printed report which is immediately faxed to your cardiologist. No preparation is required and detailed instructions are provided to you at the time of application of this recording device.
